To help them overcome the technical barriers related to fertilizer application, common single fertilizers are now mixed. The principle of application is briefly described.
The problems encountered in the mixed application of the single fertilizer are usually the defects of the physical properties of the fertilizer, causing inconvenience in storage, transportation and field application. For example, agglomerates, dusts, secondary separation of particles, and excessive water absorption. Therefore, growers need to understand the common physical properties of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers, especially moisture absorption, agglomeration, grain size, and pressure resistance.
Avoiding moisture absorption and agglutination of fertilizers refers to the ability of chemical fertilizers to absorb moisture from the air. The agglomeration is related to the moisture absorption of the surface of the single fertilizer particle, and the fertilizer with high moisture absorption is easy to agglomerate. These two properties are very unfavorable for the storage, transportation and application of chemical fertilizers. The principle of mixed application of fertilizers requires that the smaller the hygroscopicity and the caking property, the better. However, most of the water-soluble fertilizers absorb water in the air more or less, but there are great differences among different varieties.
The hygroscopic point at room temperature indicates that the low moisture absorption point means that the hygroscopicity is large and the fertilizer is easily deliquescent. Among common fertilizers, calcium nitrate and ammonium nitrate were the lowest (42.7%, 66.5%); ammonium chloride, urea, and potassium chloride were moderate (79%, 82%, 84%); ammonium sulfate, superphosphate, Potassium sulfate is higher (86%, 91%, 95%). After the fertilizer is mixed, the hygroscopicity is greater when it exists than the simple substance, and it is more prone to deliquescence.
Finding Consistency of Different Fertilizers There are often some chemical reactions that occur during the mixing of more than two simple substance fertilizers. Some of these reactions are benign. Some of these reactions may lead to increased hygroscopicity resulting in agglomeration or the fixing of effective nutrients to reduce fertilizer efficiency. Therefore, a chemically compatible single fertilizer is selected for mixed application. If chemically non-mixable two elemental fertilizers are blended together, it will generate heat, increase humidity, evolve gas, or form agglomerates. For example, the mixing of calcium and calcium carbonate results in the loss of ammonia; ammonium nitrate and urea are two kinds of simple fertilizers that are completely incompatible. In the compound fertilizer plant, the free acid in the superphosphate is neutralized with ammonium to produce an aminated superphosphate, which can be mixed with urea. For example, in the common simple nitrogen fertilizers and phosphate fertilizers, superphosphate and ammonium sulfate are mixed to ensure that the materials are of good quality and can be directly used as seed fertilizers or basal fertilizers; and superphosphate and ammonium bicarbonate are finitely compatible, and the two must be in accordance with certain requirements. Proportional mix, and with the mix as a base fertilizer, do not store. The best ratio between the two is that the superphosphate is approximately 7 to 3 more than ammonium bicarbonate, and if the amount of ammonium bicarbonate is too high, the proportion of water-soluble phosphorus in the superphosphate easily decreases.
Mixed application should be matched to the particle size of two or more granular fertilizers, otherwise secondary separation will occur, and the principle of ready-mixed use should be mastered: During the mixed application of several granular fertilizers, during storage, transportation and application Stratification may occur, resulting in uneven fertilization and poor fertilizer efficiency. The layering problem is related to the uneven size of different fertilizer particles.
Therefore, the particle size of the fertilizer to be blended must be controlled, and only fertilizers with a matching particle size can achieve uniform fertilization and the fertilizer effect can be guaranteed.
