The future direction of MRI is to speed up inspections, ensure image quality, and make patients feel comfortable.

Vendors are constantly developing new products that are getting faster and faster, coils are getting lighter, and are suitable for patients of all sizes. For example, Siemens Medical 's 7T magnetic resonance is used in clinical practice, and Philips has developed a magnet that requires only 7 liters of helium.

This article takes stock of the latest magnetic resonance products and related components from Canon Medical, GE Healthcare, Siemens Healthcare, Hitachi, Philips Medical and other manufacturers.

Canon Medical Systems

At the RSNA 2017, Canon Medical released an upgraded version of the Vantage Galan 3T magnetic resonance product called XGO.

Canon Medical Vantage Galan 3T Magnetic Resonance - XGO

The device has a higher gradient amplitude, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and a brain-to-DWI signal-to-noise ratio of up to 30%.

At the same time, XGO uses the Multiband SPEEDER technology for diffusion-weighted imaging. Traditional magnetic resonance can only get one slice at a time, and this technique can get multiple slices at the same time, and the scan time is halved. This technique is particularly useful for advanced neurological studies investigating brain connectivity and, in clinical terms, for surgical planning.

In addition, PURERF Tx RF shielding technology maximizes RF transmission efficiency and increases signal-to-noise ratio by up to 20%.

Pianissimo Zen technology reduces noise by 99%*.

* 99% is expressed in loudness units "decibels"; or in perceived loudness units "Sone", it is reduced by 97%.

GE Healthcare

GE Healthcare

GE Healthcare's SIGNA Premier is a 3T large-aperture magnetic resonance that was approved by the FDA in August 2017. This product is equipped with SuperG gradient coils to provide high quality images and accommodate larger patients.

GE Healthcare SIGNA Premier Magnetic Resonance

GE's Adaptive Imaging Receive (AIR) coil assembly uses a very flexible and lightweight material that is 66% lighter than conventional coils, while reducing power consumption by 50%, increasing patient comfort.

AIR coil assembly

AIR coil assembly

The AIR coil uses a new technology that is suitable for a variety of postures and can cover the coil like a blanket on the patient. High-density coils also speed up image acquisition. Smart devices are also installed in this product so that technicians don't have to worry about optimal scanning of the coils.

When the patient is examined, he or she lies on the examination bed, covers the AIR coil, and then scans from the side of the examination bed according to the selected body part. When the patient enters the magnetic resonance machine, the system automatically detects the position of the coil and then uses this information to optimize the combined coil elements to improve parallel imaging speed and image quality over a defined field of view. ”

The technician can also turn various coil components on and off.

Siemens Healthineers

Siemens Medical

Last fall, Siemens Medical became the first company to be approved for clinical diagnostic imaging using the 7T MR system.

Siemens Medical MAGNETOM Terra 7T Magnetic Resonance

In October 2017, the first MAGNETOM Terra was successfully installed at the Mayo Clinic. In December of the same year, the first patient underwent a clinical scan. Many organizations may not be able to invest in MAGNETOM Terra in one step, but some of the systems have migrated to Siemens Healthcare's 1.5T and 3T products.

MAGNETOM Terra has a liquid helium zero evaporating magnet that is 50% lighter than other 7T magnets and can even be mounted on the upper floor of a medical facility.

Siemens Medical is also developing new coils for its 3T MR system. Recently released the Contour 24, a flexible 24-component abdominal coil for use with MAGNETOM Skyra.

Last year, the FDA approved Siemens Medical's MAGNETOM Vida 3T device, which simultaneously released a new BioMatrix technology from Siemens Medical that can be used in conjunction with Tim 4G coil technology to reduce unwanted changes in magnetic resonance examinations.

BioMatrix Head / Neck 20 Coil

The BioMatrix Head/Neck 20 is a 20-element coil that can be tilted at multiple angles to adjust patient positioning; the BioMatrix Head/Neck 64 is a 64-element coil that can be used to accelerate advanced diffusion tensor imaging. Both coils have coil spacers to adjust the uniformity of the magnetic field in the neck region.

Siemens Medical also released the BioMatrix Spine 32 and BioMatrix Spine 72 spine coils with built-in respiratory sensors to monitor patient breathing.

The ShoreShape 16 from the MAGNETOM Vida is a very flexible coil made of memory foam material that covers the front and rear of the shoulder and is a "one size fits all needs" solution.

Siemens Medical also released the UltraFlex 18 large and small coils for MAGNETOM Vida, a multi-purpose coil that increases scanning speed by 50%. Because the coil is smaller, it is better for patients with smaller size.

Hitachi

Hitachi

Not long ago, Hitachi released the Echelon Smart 1.5T superconducting magnetic resonance system, which is sold in Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. 60cm aperture magnetic resonance has a larger market in these countries. Hitachi believes that Echelon Smart has the same clinical application capabilities as wide-aperture products, but such markets in the United States are not large.

Hitachi Echelon Smart 1.5T Superconducting Magnetic Resonance System

On the 6th of January, 2018, the Beijing Medical Imaging Development Forum - "Forbidden City Forum - PostRSNA 2017", this product was first exhibited.

Hitachi's SmartCOMFORT noise reduction technology reduces the image noise of Echelon Smart by up to 94%*. SmartCOMFORT can be used with RADAR (RADial Acquisition Regime).

*Depends on different imaging conditions.

SmartCOMFORT noise reduction technology

The operating costs of superconducting MRI systems are typically high, primarily related to the high power consumption of the cooling system required to maintain superconductivity. ECHELON Smart has an energy-saving feature that stops the cooling system for a certain period of time while the device is not in use. This feature effectively reduces power consumption while maintaining zero evaporation of helium. During this period, the power consumption of the heat sink unit is also reduced due to the reduced heat radiation of the cooling system itself.

ECHELON Smart has energy saving features

When installing a superconducting MRI system, it is often necessary to pay attention to whether there is enough space in the equipment room. ECHELON Smart has an extension cable between the main magnetic resonance frame and the power equipment in the equipment room. This flexible layout reduces some of the obstacles when introducing MRI.

ECHELON Smart can be flexibly laid out

In addition, more than a year ago, Hitachi released a high-element body coil for the Echelon Oval 1.5T magnetic resonance product, which consisted of two connected components. New products that are also available to the market include foot and ankle coils for Hitachi Oasis 1.2T open magnetic resonance.

Philips Healthcare

Philips Medical

In 2017, Philips Medical released two magnetic resonance devices.

Philips Medical Ingenia Elition 3T Magnetic Resonance

At the RSNA 2017, Philips Medical first introduced MR Prodiva 1.5T magnetic resonance. This 60cm aperture magnetic resonance is called "workhorse" by Philips Medical. With the release of Prodiva, Philips Medical also introduced an ultra-light coil called Breeze Workflow.

Breeze Workflow Body Coil

In June of this year, Philips' Ingenia Elition 3T magnetic resonance was approved by the FDA. This product uses Philips' Compressed SENSE acceleration technology to reduce the average scan time by approximately 50% while maintaining image quality.

The Ingenia Elition 3T uses advanced MR technology, including VitalEye and VitalScreen. VitalEye is an optical technology that is mounted in a hole to track breathing movements and to correct motion; VitalScreen is a guide to setting up the technique.

Philips has also been promoting its newly developed BlueSeal Magnet, which requires only 7 liters of helium, while most magnetic resonances require 1500 liters of helium.

In June of this year, Philips first promoted BlueSeal Magnet at the ISMRM annual conference in Paris.

BlueSeal magnets will be used in a new 1.5T magnetic resonance, and the device is awaiting FDA approval. Due to the lower usage of enamel, this device is suitable for more places. If the magnet cools down in time, the downtime of the magnetic resonance will be greatly reduced.

MR Instruments

MR Instruments is a company that develops RF coils for MRI equipment.

MR Instruments recently announced the second-generation DuoFLEX Coil Suite, which debuted in 2015, featuring a 12-inch long cable and an additional 60-degree rotation for access to all anatomical parts.

DuoFLEX coil assembly

Multiple points in the DuoFLEX connection can be rotated slightly. This rotation maximizes the anatomical position and achieves optimal imaging results.

The DuoFLEX coil kit includes two 10cm and 24cm curved coils. This double coil size has the advantage of maximum signal-to-noise ratio. The 24cm or 10cm coil can be adapted to the areas that are difficult for adults and children to scan.
