Since Greenpeace exposed Kraft Foods' implementation of double standards on the issue of genetically modified foods, genetically modified foods have once again become the focus of attention. On March 17, the Consumers Association of Beijing issued consumer tips to remind consumers to look for signs and purchase GM foods on their own. Beijing Consumers Association believes that genetically modified foods must be clearly identified in the logo to protect consumers' right to know and to choose their own right. Article 16 of the “Measures for the Management of the Health of Genetically Modified Foods” promulgated by the Ministry of Health in 2002 stipulates that food products (including raw materials and processed foods) containing genetically modified organisms and expression products should be labeled “genetically modified foods” or “transgenic foods”. As raw materials, genetically modified foods come from potentially allergenic foods, but also marked "this product is transferred to food genes, attention to food allergies." Otherwise, it is a violation of the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. Beijing Consumers Association suggested that at present, the scientific community is not thorough enough to understand the pattern of gene activity and has not fully grasped the consequences of controlling genetic adjustments. For the consideration of the safety of genetically modified foods, consumers should choose their own choices and make more comparisons when purchasing genetically modified foods. If they look at food labels, they can also consult relevant departments to understand the characteristics of genetically modified foods. The Beijing Consumers’ Association recommended that relevant departments strengthen the management of GMO research, intermediate tests, environmental release, production tests, and the use of safety certificates, and establish a complete supervision system from the source of production to the market circulation, to ensure the protection of people. Physical health and the safety of plants and animals and microorganisms to protect the ecological environment.
