The World Health Organization recommends that people take at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical exercise or 75 minutes of high-intensity physical exercise every week. But there is no final conclusion about the specific daily exercise time. Many people are usually too busy to exercise at weekends, but it has not been clear whether this is effective.
Researchers in the UK and Australia reported on January 9 in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, Internal Medicine, that they analyzed data on exercise and death for nearly 64,000 Britons between 1994 and 2012. During the study period, a total of 8802 people died of various causes, of which 2,780 died of cardiovascular disease and more than 2,500 died of cancer.
The results show that as long as exercise, there are health benefits. Compared with people who are not exercising, the rate of death of a person who achieves only WHO recommendations at the weekend is only 30%, and the mortality rate due to cardiovascular disease is reduced by 40%. Mortality fell by 18%.
Emanuel Stamatakis, research associate and associate professor at the University of Sydney, said in a statement: "This is very encouraging news, as long as one or two campaigns a week is associated with a reduced risk of death." However, he added that to achieve the best exercise results, it is recommended that people meet or exceed the WHO recommendations.
According to a review article distributed in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Internal Medicine Volume, these results show that exercise is definitely better than no exercise in reducing mortality.
