Antibacterial steel can be generally divided into two types according to the way of producing antibacterial properties: coating type and self-antibacterial type (or alloy type). The former is coated with a bactericidal metal material (such as Ag) or other bactericidal inorganic material thin layer on the surface of the steel; the latter is added with an antibacterial metal element (such as Cu) in the steel smelting process. The special heat treatment then produces the antibacterial properties of the steel itself. Esco Biosafety Cabinet uses the first coated antimicrobial steel.

Since the bacteriostatic material is mixed in the powder coating on the outer surface of the safety cabinet, its bacteriostatic action is effective in the life cycle of the safety cabinet without being eliminated by surface cleaning. The main component of ISOCIDE ^TM bacteriostatic material contains silver ions and has long-term bacteriostatic action. Applying this coating to the surface of steel, the silver ions released from the surface combine with bacteria to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, molds and other bacteria. The following mechanisms synergistically occur:

1. Electric field adsorption sterilization. Because the bacterial cell wall and cell membrane are negatively charged, and the silver ion is positively charged. Due to the attraction of heterosexual charges, bacterial activity is limited. The microenvironment around the bacteria is disturbed, and the breathing is inhibited, eventually leading to "contact death" of the bacteria. Moreover, this process causes the cell wall and cell membrane to deform, causing physical perforation rupture and cytoplasmic spillage, which is also known as "dissolution death."

2. Silver ions destroy the enzyme system in the cell to affect normal metabolism. Silver ions penetrate the cell wall and enter the cell, and react with the spasm (-SH) to coagulate the protein and destroy the activity of the cell synthetase, so the cell will lose its genital capacity and die. In addition, silver ions can also destroy bioelectronic transmission systems, material delivery systems, and respiratory systems, leading to the destruction of microbes' inherent components and dysfunction leading to their death.

3. Sterilize by catalysis. Under the action of light, silver ions can activate oxygen in the air to produce hydroxyl radicals and reactive oxygen ions. They have a strong redox effect, making the bacteria unable to perform normal energy metabolism, and the bacteria will always be in a state of inhibition and finally die. .

Although silver ions have a strong bactericidal effect, silver-ion antibacterial coatings do not mean that hygienic conditions can be maintained once and for all, so products with this coating must also be kept clean from time to time to be damaged by bacteria attached to them for a long time. .
