Occurrence

Onion thrips occur in North China for 8-10 generations a year, mainly as adults in the overwintering scallion, onion and garlic leaf sheath, soil cracks or dead leaves in the winter, and with onions, garlic turn green when the eel. Adults are active and can spread by the wind, fear of light, mainly to eat sooner or later, mostly in the back Yin and leafhoppers feeding damage, can be parthenogenetic, eggs scattered in the host stem, leaf tissue. Nymphs are not very active, mostly concentrated in the base of the leaf, and only slightly disperse. After the 2nd instar nymph was matured and drilled into the soil, the moltings entered the anterior pod and pseudopod stage, and finally the eclosion became adults. The days of generation of the hummer generation were 20-35 days. When the temperature was low, it was extended. The optimum conditions for the occurrence of onion are temperature 23°C-28°C and relative humidity 40%-70%. High temperature, high humidity, and storm have an inhibitory effect on its occurrence.

Prevention

Clean pastoral: In the early spring, the onions, garlic and its surrounding weeds and stubble leaves are removed, concentrated burned and the overwintering insect source eliminated.

Strengthen fertilizer and water management, especially when the weather is dry, care should be taken to water, promote plant growth, and destroy the ecological environment conducive to the occurrence of thrips.

Chemical control: It can be controlled by 3% acetamiprid EC 2000 times, 10% imidacloprid wettable powder 1500 times, 4.5% beta-cypermethrin 1000 times, 99% mineral oil 150 times. Due to the relatively smooth leaves of green onions, leaf surface spreaders or neutral detergent powders can be added during spraying to increase adhesion and improve spray results.
